Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Fri. 12/1 - Thurs. 12/21

(R) 1 Hr. 55 Min. (Digital) In English (Comedy, Drama

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, is a darkly comic drama from Academy Award winner Martin McDonagh (In Bruges). After months have passed without a culprit in her daughter's murder case, Mildred Hayes (Academy Award winner Frances McDormand) makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby (Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson), the town's revered chief of police. When his second-in-command Officer Dixon (Sam Rockwell), an immature mother's boy with a penchant for violence, gets involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing's law enforcement is only exacerbated.
“A towering achievement that will no doubt put in an impressive showing come Oscar nomination time.” ~ New York Post
“One of those truly rare films that feels both profound and grounded; inspirational without ever manipulatively trying to be so.” ~

Lady Bird

Tues. 11/21 - Thurs. 12/21

(R) 1 Hr. 38 Min. (Digital) In English (Comedy, Drama)

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Major congratulations are in order for Greta Gerwig.  Lady Bird  has become the best reviewed film on Rotten Tomatoes ( with a 100% score after 165 reviews. The previous record holder was “Toy Story 3,” which has a 100% score from 163 reviews.  Lady Bird’s  critical success has been matched at the box office, where the A24-released film has already earned over $10 million without even playing in 800 theaters yet.  Lady Bird is nominated for three Gotham Awards, including Best Actress, and four Film Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Actress and Best Feature. The film is expected to be a contender at the Oscars next year, especially now that the box office is taking off.

Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story

Opens Fri. Dec. 8

(NR) 1 Hr. 30 Min. In color and black & white (Digital) In English (Documentary)

What are the chances that the hottest pin-up girl of the 1930s was also a genius who foresaw wi-fi, bluetooth and cell phone technology? She was one in a million. Beautiful,  yet brilliant. An icon, and yet there is a tragedy behind all that. Lamarr, an impossibly stunning beauty, achieved international notoriety when she swam nude in a scene in the 1933 Czech film Ecstasy by Gustav Mahaty.  Her delicate figure, seen through the swirling water, was the first time such nudity had ever been depicted in a mainstream film. The daughter of a Jewish banker in Vienna, she went on to become a sex symbol for the ages and a Hollywood super star. But Lamarr was a naïve sex symbol: she never gave it a second thought. Her deeper passion had to do with mechanics and technology. During World War II she developed a concept (“frequency hopping”), which she patented, to enable radio-controlled torpedoes to sink Nazi U-boats, but the Navy paternalistically sneered at her ideas. Bombshell is the story of an unusual and accomplished woman, spurned as too beautiful to be smart, but a role model to this day.
“A thoroughly engaging eye-opening showbiz doc!”– The Hollywood Reporter
“Not just a stupendous tribute to Lamarr, but also a tribute to every brilliant woman ignored.” – Kristy Puchko, Nerdist
