The extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria's (Academy Award winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. Lucky follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist and the quirky characters that inhabit his off-the-map desert town. Having out lived and out smoked all of his contemporaries, the fiercely independent Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration, leading towards that which is so often unattainable: enlightenment. Acclaimed character actor John Carroll Lynch's directorial debut, Lucky is at once a love letter to the life and career of Harry Dean Stanton as well as a meditation on morality, loneliness, spirituality, and human connection. Stanton passed away Sept. 15 at age 91. The character actor, whose career spanned six decades, was a friend of Brando, Hunter S. Thompson, Jack Nicholson, Bob Dylan and many other Hollywood illuminati. Stanton spent his early days riding the range in Gunsmoke and Rawhide and went on to make notable appearances in the films Cool Hand Luke, Kelly's Heroes, Dillinger, The Godfather Part II, Alien, Escape from New York, Christine, Repo Man, Paris, Texas, Pretty in Pink, The Last Temptation of Christ, Wild at Heart, The Straight Story, The Green Mile, Alpha Dog and Inland Empire. This film is one of the last two he made.
“A beautiful showcase for the 90-year-old Harry Dean Stanton, giving one of the best performances of his remarkable career.” ~
“Everything Harry Dean Stanton has done in his career, and his life, has brought him to his moment of triumph in "Lucky," an unassumingly wonderful little film about nothing in particular and everything that's important.” ~ Variety
